Mall shock remains

The large pool of blood in Sheraton Mall, where a man was killed on Thursday, has been cleaned up but there’s no disinfectant strong enough to erase the memories of the brazen murder.

Around 3 p.m. yesterday, just over 24 hours since 33-year-old Damian Trotman was gunned down in the food court of the popular Sargeants’ Village shopping centre, it appeared to be business as usual. People were sitting around having a bite, others were entering and exiting many of the stores.

But when THE NATION team spoke to employees and shoppers, that couldn’t have been farther from the truth.

Employee at Julia’s Nutrition Centre, Khadijah Gamble, was on the job, but the pandemonium that occurred a day earlier may be forever etched in her mind.

“I was at lunch and I heard the noise but I thought it was the gym upstairs. But then I heard them say ‘Kadijah, Kadijah, come’ and that’s when I saw the man lying in the blood coming towards the door,” she said.

The alarm was blaring, and she vividly recalled the male customer who was struggling to exit but was unable to because of Trotman’s body. (TG)
