The festive season worked out to be a “positive” period for hoteliers.
As the mass exodus of Christmas and New Year’s visitors started on Friday and continued through the weekend hotels are going into the usual phase of a “dip”, with some expecting numbers to spike at the end of every month leading up to the Easter period in mid-April and during cricket with the touring English team in March.
While bookings were not as strong in early December compared to the same period in 2012, executive vice-president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Sue Springer, said occupancies were good over Christmas and New Year.
“Yes the bookings are looking good but we also have some patches, as is historical, that are not as strong. Bookings are looking alright at the moment,” she told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday. (YB)
