The Barbados Muslim Association issued a statement against the Easter Sunday attack in Sri Lanka.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack at several high profile hotels and churches that left 321 wounded and about 500 injured.

Those acts are believed to be in retaliation for the attack on two mosques in New Zealand on March 15 during Friday prayers that left 50 dead.

The full statement is below:

The Barbados Muslim Association condemns in the strongest possible terms the barbaric attacks on Churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

We express our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims of this horrendous act and to the people of Sri Lanka. Our sympathies are also extended to the entire Christian world who would have felt the tremendous impact of this tragedy that affected fellow members of their faith at one of the holiest events on the Christian calendar.

There can be no justification for these intolerable actions. Our faith-based traditions and sacred texts instruct all humanity to be kind and merciful to all of the Almighty’s creation.

Our faith further teaches us that places of worship including synagogues, churches and mosques must be protected from all forms of aggression and destruction. Worshippers in these places must be protected from all forms of harm and violence.

We stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters in humanity in fighting all forms of violence, aggression, and terrorism. (PR/SAT)
