Former acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Seymour Cumberbatch has passed away.
Reports indicate that Cumberbatch, who retired from the Royal Barbados Police Police Force in 2017, died this morning at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
In 2013, Cumberbatch challenged how Deputy Commissioners were selected by the Police Services Commission, asking the court to find that it was a biased and invalid process.
In 2016 High Court Judge Dr Sonia Richards ruled in his favour stating that he had “made out a reasonably recognisable claim for judicial review, pursuant to a breach of natural justice in relation to the composition of the interview panel”.
He was 69-years-old.
The Commissioner of Police, senior command and members of the Police Force extended condolences on his passing. (MB)
