Operations at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) were back to normal today, following a disruption in service yesterday, caused by a suspected gas leak.
However, GAIA Inc.’s corporate communications specialist Keith Goddard said in a release that thus far there “was no evidence of a gas leak in the terminal”. He added it was believed that the source of the odour might have been “atmospheric in nature” and in a wider area than the airport terminal buildings.
“As a consequence, GAIA Inc. has sought the assistance of the Environmental Protection Agency in furthering its investigations with the hope of mitigating any further occurrence,” he said.
Goddard said a GAIA Inc. team and the Barbados Fire Service were continuing investigations into the source of the odour that was detected at Terminal 1.
