Declaring that Barbados was “blindly following First World countries”, a senior prosecutor has sounded a warning about the possible legalisation of marijuana.
Stressing that he would never support the move, Principal Crown Counsel Alliston Seale, said no less than 90 per cent of offenders before the court have a history of marijuana use and its legalisation could spell the loss of an entire generation.
Seale made the comments as he was dealing with self-confessed manslayer, Kobia Jamal Robinson, who was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.
The prosecutor declared that everyday he saw the effects of marijuana use on young men, even when the charges were not drug related; and there was a correlation between marijuana use and their appearances in court. Robinson’s case, he said, was a classic example of such. (HLE)
