The Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) is about to sign another two memoranda of understanding (MOU).
It said the agreements with the Barbados American Chamber of Commerce (BACC) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) would strengthen its relations in the areas of commerce and education.
The first memorandum between the BCCI and BACC “is designed to share ideas and best practices” and will be signed on Wednesday while the MOU with UWI “is geared towards undertaking research for the business community, coordinating seminars/workshops and creating internship opportunities”.
The signing of the second agreement is Thursday and on both occasions officials will formalize their partnerships at the Chamber’s Braemar Court, Deighton Road, St Michael office.
“Under the agreement both parties have agreed to utilize resources in support of the development of initiatives and for the mutual benefit of both institutions,” the organization said in relation to the MOU with UWI.
BCCI has signed a number of agreements in recent years as it continues to find new ways to cooperate with institutions here and overseas, thereby improving business opportunities for its membership.
In November last year the Chamber signed a MOU with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), one aimed at promoting trade and economic cooperation between the two entities.
Executive director of the BCCI, Lisa Gale, said the MOU was geared towards building an economic cooperative where BCCI and CCPIT members could trade with each other, share information on local economic investments, develop market access and foster stronger business relations between Barbados and China.
“This is a great opportunity for Barbados and an unprecedented move for BCCI members, as local companies now have the facility for  direct contact with companies in China, which is a huge market,” she said at the time.(SCPR)
