Red Cross ready

BARBADOS IS in the hurricane season and with five named storms so far, the Barbados Red Cross Society is leaving nothing to chance.
Red Cross director general Edmond Bradshaw told the DAILY?NATION that last year the organization embarked on a special programme geared towards providing community members with the requisite skills, training and tools to assist during and after a disaster.
Last year over three dozen people were trained in two communities, and this year the society will be targeting more areas.
“We will have vulnerability capacity assessment for those communities, and it is really to strengthen the preparedness and response capacities of communities. Also in those communities themselves they would have formed community-based disaster response teams, and those teams we would have trained and would have also provided them with tools,” he said.
