A ‘trolley’ fowl run? What will be thought of next? Those were Damian Murrell’s thoughts when he came across this scene in Blades Hill, St Philip, recently.“[I heard] chickens and when I looked around I saw these chickens in a trolley with a piece of galvanise on the top,” said Damian.“I could not believe my eyes. What next? Hard times really coming for some people,” he added.Damian’s discovery shows at least one Barbadian is heeding Government’s urgings to be more innovative, as well as to return to backyard farming as a way of cutting one’s food bill. When you think of it, a trolley makes an ideal cage. It is enclosed on three sides and can be moved easily since it is on wheels. The only potential problem is that a strong breeze could blow the roof off. But then, one could use “Barbados’ greatest discovery” – a big rock – to keep that in place.Seriously though, this mobile fowl run demonstrates that necessity is truly the mother of invention. For his quick eye and snap, Damian has won this week’s Chefette Photo Of The Week prize of two vouchers. You, too, can be a winner by sending your offbeat pictures to Sanka Price c/o The NATION, Nation House, Fontabelle, St Michael, or by emailing them to sankaprice@nationnews.com
