BARBADIANS?MAY still be trying to become familiar with the sport of segway polo but they got a golden opportunity to see some world-class players in action yesterday.
The Barbados Cup 2014 “Segway Polo in Paradise” rolled off on May?Day at the Astroturf of the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies with six teams comprising players from Germany, Sweden and Barbados battling it out for world supremacy.
Previously, the competition was split into a battle between teams from the United States, Germany, Sweden and Barbados. However, this year the organisers decided to distribute the players into six equal teams.
Those teams carry a Barbadian influence which whets one’s culinary appetites as well as sporting desires with such names as Pickled Pork, Pepper Sauce, Coconut Bread, Rum Cake, Sea Cat and Salt Fish. Pickled Pork got the action smoking from early with a 3-1 demolition of Pepper Sauce with German Lutz Dombdrea scoring a hat-trick. (KB)
