Wondrous reefs

Share post:

The depths of the ocean contain amazing wonders and mesmerizing coral reefs. In fact, although coral reefs occupy less than one per cent of the world’s ocean floor, they are one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth. Some 25 per cent of all marine life is found in and around coral reefs.
Cognizant of such beauty, local artists have always sought to capture aspects of this undersea world.
Indonesian photographer Hengki Koentjoro once said: “The love of the ocean is the main drive to express oneself. The calm and the vast area is the inspiration and at the same time a place to replenish your mind.”
The paintings on these pages – as well as the works of numerous other artists – can be viewed at The Gallery Of Caribbean Art, Northern Business Centre, Speightstown, St Peter. (CH)
