The Moseley boys are in for yet another big brother versus brother showdown.
Men’s open top seed Russell Moseley beat Dario Parris 6-0, 6-1 on Friday night to set up another clash against older brother Ryan in next week’s semi-finals of the Christopher Howitt Memorial Tennis Tournament at the Ocean View Courts.
The routine straight sets victory came just one day after No. 3 Ryan Moseley cruised to a similarly easy win over fifth-seeded Simon Lewis at the same venue.
Earlier in the week, second seed Andrew Thornton became the first man to book a final four berth after beating Andrew Symmonds and is awaiting the winner of the last quarter-final match between No. 6 Christopher King and the fourth-seeded Devard Wharton.
Michael Date and Joshua Worme safely made it past their opening Men’s Open doubles match when they downed the pair of Damon Wilson and Shaun Etienne 6-0, 6-3.
In the men’s over-35s draw, local tennis president Dr Raymond Forde survived some anxious moments against Oneal Marshall before eventually advancing to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory.
Top seed Alan Grogan also moved on via a 6-3, 6-1, win against Adrian Catlyn.
Ladies over-35 favourite Donna Gibbs predictably got through her first round match as well after blasting Tracey Johnson 6-0, 6-0. (JM)
