Renewable energy officials have raised concerns regarding the newly tabled Electric Light and Power Bill 2013 which is expected to be debated in Parliament this week. Barbados Renewable Energy Association (BREA) members and a Government minister have voiced their disapproval with various sections of the new bill, saying there were a number of flaws that needed to be corrected. Speaking during the BREA roadshow discussion on the bill at the St Leonard’s School hall on Friday night, electrical engineer Felicia Cox said “the entire bill as it stands has implications” for the renewable energy industry. One area of concern, she said, was Section Six which proposed to give power to the electrical engineering department of the Ministry of Energy to administer capacity limits. Cox said an independent body should be responsible for that administration. (MM)
