HAMILTON, Bermuda – An unruly 43-year-old British woman en route to the Caribbean from northern England has been detained in Bermuda after the pilot of a charter made an emergency landing here on Friday night.
Authorities said the woman, who has not been named, was arrested after becoming violent and unruly on the flight, operated by UK carrier Thomson Airways, from Manchester to the Dominican Republic.
They said the passenger became aggressive with a crew member and a fellow traveller, forcing the pilot to make an unscheduled stop at Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport at around 6.15 p.m (local time).
The flight left two hours later without the woman.
“At approximately 5.05 p.m., Airport Operations received notification that a charter flight operated by UK-based Thomson, had declared a full emergency after a female passenger on board had become violent and unruly with a crew member and fellow passenger, said Airport general manager Aaron Adderley.
“The Boeing 767 aircraft, en route from Manchester to Punta Canta, Dominican Republic, arrived at L.F. Wade International Airport at approximately 6.15 p.m. It was met by police and other emergency personnel.
“The 43-year-old passenger, along with her accompanying husband and the passenger she allegedly attacked, were escorted to the airport police station for questioning.
“The flight departed at 8.23 p.m. The female passenger has been detained and remains in police custody,” he added. (CMC)
