TORONTO – Barbadian jockey Patrick Husbands had one win on Woodbine’s ten-race programme on Sunday but he narrowly missed out in the feature event when he finished second in the CAN$150 000 Fury Stakes.
A six-time champion at the Toronto Oval, Husbands was forced to play second fiddle on the day and in the feature event to defending champion Luis Contreras.
The young Mexican scored three wins, the last of which came aboard the favourite Northern Passion in race eight, as he picked up the money-added victory.
Husbands followed Contreras home 1-1/4 lengths behind on the highly rated Dene Court.
Through the first turn of the seven-furlong race, Northern Passion found an opening along the rail and Contreras capitalized, sweeping the three-year-old chestnut filly to the front and holding on to win comfortably in one minute, 22.78 seconds.
Husbands’ lone victory was in race four with Vino Del Toro. (CMC)
