Seventh heaven

THE FINALE OF Mahalia’s Corner was nothing short of unforgettable.

With show-stopping performances from both headlining artiste Patrice Roberts and the spotlight act, the Marlon Legall Voice Project, the closing episode was seventh heaven.

Even before the Trinidadian-born artiste took the stage, she could be heard expressing her gratitude to Bajan fans for always supporting her. And it was not hard to hear or see why.

From the first song Unforgettable, the 31-year-old who was backed by resident band 2 Mile Hill, had the crowd singing along.

And it didn’t seem to matter what hit she pulled from her incomparable catalogue. Songs such as I Am Soca, A Little Wine, Money Done, The Islands, Band Of D Year, Wukking Up, Old And Grey seemed to have been released recently because the lyrics were still fresh in the minds of the hundreds at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Despite saying she was nervous about performing in such a laid-back setting, it was not apparent. The intimacy of the venue allowed her to show off an emotional side and impressive vocals especially during Always Be (Have You Ever Been In Love) which she dedicated to her daughter Lyara Roberts or Lili as she is affectionately called.
