PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART has taken a jab at people who criticise the performance of Barbados and its people by extension.
In what appeared to be a response to the most recent downgrade by international rating agency Standard Poor’s (S) last Friday, Stuart yesterday insisted that Barbados had done a “few things right”.
Speaking at a signing ceremony for a $10 million donation of educational supplies from the People’s Republic of China at the Ministry of Education, the Prime Minister said the country had “indigenised” its assessments in the educational system over the years through the Caribbean Examinations Council, in keeping with Errol Barrow’s persistent charge against “being imbued with a sense of our own inferiority, or a sense of our own inadequacy”.
He said the country had taken several leaps since the days of being assessed by “metropolitan capitals” and that people seemed to be regressing to the point where foreign validation was needed. (YB)
