The Barbados Association of Journalists (BAJ) has expressed deep regret and sadness at the passing of Dame Olga Lopes-Seale.
President of the BAJ Emmanuel Joseph in a statement today said Dame Olga, affectionately called Aunty Olga by many, was a mentor and inspiration to many media workers.
“Her commitment to, and high standards as a broadcaster and newspaper columnist should be emulated by all of us in the profession,” he said.
He recalled that last November Dame Olga was inducted into the BAJ Hall of Fame for her pioneering work as a broadcaster, her dedication to service and her successful blending of her media career with her philanthropic work.                        “To think that she was still in the media when she died only seven years short of a 100 and a career spanning some 70 years, is extraordinary and ample testimony to her passion and unparalleled commitment.   “Her passing will undoubtedly leave a vast chasm in the broadcast and print media, one which will be a challenge to fill,” he said. The BAJ expressed condolences to Dame Olga’s family, adding that her memory and invaluable work will live on in the hearts of many.
