In a mismatch featuring a heavyweight against a flyweight, second place ICBL Empire, piloted by Roston Chase’s outstanding all-round display, battered the severely under-strength Guardian General Barbados Youth yesterday.
After taking seven for 39 in 15 overs with his improving off spin to rout the second-string Barbados Youth outfit for a paltry 121, six-footer Chase returned to hit an unbeaten 69, adorned with nine threes and three fours off 91 balls as Empire reached 177 for three at stumps.
That gave Empire a lead of 56 runs on the opening day of their LIME Elite cricket contest.
Sent in, Barbados Youth, with five newcomers, including 15-year-old opener Lee-Germon Gaskin, didn’t lose a wicket for the first 50 minutes but capitulated once spin was introduced.
Chase was well supported by leg-spinner Nikolai Charles, who took the other three wickets, as only captain Dario Boyce, with 32 in 69 minutes with nine threes, made more than 15.
