SKIPPER?Darren Sammy restricted himself to a solitary over but the other front-line West Indies bowlers had reasonable workouts as their preparations for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh continued at the 3Ws Oval yesterday.
Spinners Sunil Narine and first-timer Veerasammy Permaul, along with pacer Fidel Edwards, shared nine wickets as they dismissed the Sagicor High Performance Centre for 181 on the second day of their three-day practice match.
All three bowlers bowled well within themselves, as the HPC, resuming on 20-1 in response to the West Indies’ 220, fell short of their opponents total by 39 runs.
Permaul, who has been selected for his maiden senior tour, finished with four for 37 off 18.3 overs while Narine, who joined the team yesterday, took three for 48 from 16 overs.
Edwards, who was drafted into the touring party for the injured Kemar Roach, looked the part in taking two for 23 off seven overs but pacers Ravi Rampaul and Tino Best were wicketless in their seven overs.
The bright spark for the HPC was the positive batting and approach of Kyle Hope, who top-scored with an attractive 55.
Hope, who batted with calm assurance, struck four fours and a six in an innings that lasted 139 minutes. Only Andre Fletcher (39) of the other batsmen showed any real resistance against the West Indies’ varied attack. Fletcher stroked six fours in a 95-minute knock.
At the close, the West Indies had reached 39 without loss in their second innings. The match concludes today.
Summarized scores: West Indies 220 & 39-0 (K. Powell 25 not out, A. Fudadin 10 not out). Sagicor High Performance Centre: 181 (Kyle Hope 55, A. Fletcher 39) V. Permaul 4-37, S. Narine 3-48, F. Edwards 2-23.
