For the month of November, we will focus on things Barbados as this country celebrates its independence. Every day we will be highlighting Barbadian sayings, artefacts unique to the country, as well as personalities, icons, some places and things that reflect Barbados. Today we focus on the Pride of Barbados Flower A decorative shrub cultivated throughout the tropics. The name Caesalpnina pulcherrima, commemorates the Italian philosopher, physician and botanist Caesalpinus. It’s common name, however, has assured it a place on the Barbados Coat of arms. It is often planted as a hedge, or in local parlance, ‘fence’. Source: A-Z of Barbadian Heritage
