NAZARIA JOSEPH, the five-year-old who was involved in an accident with a motor car on Sunday night, is out of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Intensive Care Unit and on the mend.

His grandfather Sylvester Drakes said the five-year-old was “coming around good”.

Drakes told the WEEKEND NATION that they were still waiting before they sat with Nazaria to discuss his father’s death.

Anderson Joseph, 48, died at the scene of the same accident at Westmoreland Road, St James, along the Ronald Mapp Highway, while crossing the road. Nazaria’s injuries included a fractured skull and his left foot was broken in two places.

The family intends to get a counsellor for Nazaria, but Drakes said they wanted to wait until he was a bit better.

“We ain’t get to that as yet,” Drakes said.

“We are thinking of getting a counsellor for him but waiting until he is a bit better. He has not asked for his dad but we have a strong feeling that he knows; he is a fairly intelligent fella.”

Drakes said that Nazaria was not talking very much at the moment.

Police public relations officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler said Nazaria was listed at in stable condition.

The car involved in the accident was driven by 19-year-old Nicholii Greene of Carlton, St James.

Joseph was the 12th person to die in a road accident this year, compared to ten for all of last year. (LK)
