Estimates debate Monday

THE?ANNUAL?DEBATE on Government’s Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure will start on Monday.
Today Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler is expected to lay the Estimates for the 2012-2013 financial year in the House of Assembly and debate will follow a week later.  
Also scheduled for debate at today’s sitting of the Lower House are a number of supplementary money resolutions and land acquisitions.Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is to move the first reading of the National Petroleum Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2012. As the Committee of Supply, members will debate a resolution to have $8 247 285 taken from the Consolidated Fund and placed at the disposal of the Government to supplement the 2011-2012 Estimates.
Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley is to seek to have Government compulsorily acquire two parcels of land in the Garden Land and Skeetes Road, St Michael. The land is to be used for the construction of a pump station and septic tank to address the domestic sewage issues in that district, under the Housing and Neighbourhood Upgrading Programme.
Meanwhile, Sinckler is down to  move a resolution for the guarantee by Government of the repayment of a $17 million loan plus interest and other charges secured from the National Insurance Board by the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA). The money is to assist in the provision of working capital to meet the BTA’s obligations and the execution of its policy and general administration. (SP/BGIS)
