St?Michael South East and St George South secured the last two semi-final spots in the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic at the Ellerton playing field on Saturday night.
Playing before one of the biggest crowds for the season, St Michael South East needed extra time to get over a resilient St Joseph squad 3-2 in the first game while home team St George South prevailed over St Michael West 2-0.
St Joseph opened the scoring in the 30th minute through captain Andre Layne but Nicholas Best levelled the score five minutes later.
Mario Harte gave St Michael South East the lead in the 42nd minute but Adrian Mayers with the last kick of regulation time, converted a penalty to send the game into extra time.
Harte provided the deadly blow to St Joseph when he scored in the 97th minute to grant St Michael South East a date with defending champions The City of Bridgetown in the semi-finals.
Playing for the second time in less than 48 hours, St Michael West showed signs of fatigue against St George South, as they were second to most of the loose balls and their build up play was lacking movement, mobility and pace.
For the second straight game, their most prolific forward Kemar Headley was given sweeper responsibilities, this time without reward.
St George South opened their account in the 25th minute, when a quickly taken free kick was played to Barbados Under-17 forward Shaquille Belle, whose right foot shot flew through a crowd of players and beyond the extended right hand of goalkeeper Kerry Holder.
St Michael West never showed any offensive spark and last game hero Wayne Johnson was a mere shadow of himself.
The St George outfit put the game beyond their opponents in the 75th minute through a familiar combination. Shurland Roberts fed a delightful ball to Ricky Barnes, who unselfishly played it back across the goal mouth for Belle to slot into an open net from close range.
St George South will contest their semi-final against Christ Church East Central.
