WHEN THE 18 calypsonians in the Courtesy Garage/Mount Gay Pic-O-De-Crop Semi-finals two Fridays ago battled among themselves for a place in tonight’s finals, they did not know know there would have been a tie to place for an extra one of them to go forward.

Now ten, instead of the nine, will be at the Kensington Oval, 3Ws Amphitheatre tonight to see if they can stop reigning monarch Aziza in her tracks as she attempts to go after a second crown an improvement of her standing on 1988 calypso monarch Rita, the first female to take the crown.

Only one calypsonian will change his song according to a list from the National Cultural Foundation. Sir Ruel replaces Not My Vote with The Printer.

Each act will want to get over the message as forcefully and in good a voice as they deal with the issues, political and social, as is wont in the calypso genre. They might not want to admit it but each fancies their chances of walking away with a fully loaded Nissan Xtrail valued at $125 000 along with other prizes. (JS)
