Darien King was crowned the 2010 Courtesy Garage Tennis Champion when he demolished opponent Seanon Williams 6-1, 6-0 in last Wednesdays’ final at the Ocean View tennis courts. Williams played well but had no answer to the onslaught of King’s all-round game. He hit with heavy top spin and tried valiantly to keep it out of King’s hitting zone but King’s superior footwork and touch meant that he had total control of the match which lasted just 50 minutes. With both players serving well it was the return that made all the difference. Williams’ high and bouncing serve had King often returning like he was swatting a fly, while King’s flatter, bigger, serve had Williams floundering on the return. After 50 minutes King walked off the court. The most competitive match was played in the men’s doubles, with Williams receiving some consolation, teaming up with Duncan Evanson to overcome the Moseley  brothers, Ryan and Russell 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. Janeice Ayuen won the women’s title over Sharon Lashley 6-2, 6-2, while George Grant won the men’s 45s title over Raymond Forde and teamed up with Forde to take the doubles over Sydney Lopez and Mike Tingey.
