A businessman is nursing injuries and emotional scars after surviving an attack and robbery in his home.
The businessman, who asked that his name be withheld, told the Saturday Sun that he and his wife were in their bedroom between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. last on December 28 when three people – a man and two women – all dressed in black and wearing ski masks, entered his rural home through a terrace door.
“Before we could move, one woman was on top of her [his wife] . . . , put a knife to her face and the man beat me about the head.
“He hit me very hard on the side of the head with a piece of wood with a nail in the end. When I stood up, he hit me two more times on the head and then once I was on the ground he hit me one more time, and I had my hand up over my head by that time, so he broke my hand.”
The businessman said he pleaded with his attacker to stop hitting him, promising to “give him what he wanted”.
He added that he was forced to open the safe which the robbers then cleared, after which they tied up both he and his wife before escaping. He was forced to seek medical attention at a private health care facility, with his wounds taking several stitches.
Public relations officer of the Royal Barbados Police Force, Inspector David Welch, confirmed that police had received a report of the incident and it was being investigated.
Meanwhile, there was another report of a mid-December attack on a woman who was robbed of her handbag and contents by two men as she left her suburban place of business. She too, reportedly sustained a minor injury.(GC)
