The Nation’s Online Editor Sherrylyn Toppin looks at What’s Trending today in Barbados.
When 24-year-old Nyesha McPherson was nabbed at Kennedy Airport on Sunday, she had two .40-caliber handguns, 350 rounds of ammunition and four magazines in her luggage.
According to the police in New York, the Canadian was en route to Barbados. She also had 33 pounds of marijuana.
With the recent spate in gun crime, online readers welcomed the news that McPherson was held before she reached the island.
Here are their views.
Lance Layne: I’m happy the authorities caught her before she reached Barbados. We don’t need any more guns in Barbados.
Juston Sears: If they didn’t get her in New York, they would have gotten her in Barbados, for sure. The customs people at Grantley Adams love going through your baggage.
Naomi Holligan: Thank God those drugs and guns did not reach Barbados. I wonder who she was trafficking them for. They should have let her go through, then when she reached Barbados, see who was picking her up and bust them.
Christine Hinds Davis: Glad she got caught.
Ashley Sterling: She’s gotta be the decoy... imagine what get passed through cause all eyes was on her.
Steve Graham: Well done to airport security for helping we in BIM. Hope she not a free woman for a long time.
Cherry Matunda Heri: Brave? I am glad she was not held in Barbados.
Kerrian Brathwaite: She obviously wanted to get caught.
Kathy-Ann Prescod: At 24 years I don’t believe she did this on her own. She better start talking.
Mstonia Tee: She make bad for others who want to travel to Barbados!
Nicole AJ Hope-Wiltshire: I glad she got, especially with all the crime going on in Barbados, less guns and ammo off the street.
Juston Sears: What’s scary is, the real smugglers probably got through with more stuff.
Jo-Anne Husbands: I wonder who is the receiver.
Nita Holligan: Why would you do something like this, what were you thinking? Wonder where you were going to be staying in Barbados that might give us a lead of where the guns are going.
