The men weren’t in control for long. Not with these Virgin Atlantic women ready to soar.

The 2015 Battle of the Sexes polo series is now getting interesting.

The Diamonds International-sponsored men’s team of Josh Archer, Rhys Odle, Adam Deane, and Jeff Evelyn could not stop the Virgin Atlantic lasses from registering a comfortable 4-2 victory, when the Virgin Atlantic/Diamonds International  “Battle of the Sexes” Polo tournament continued at the Holders grounds on Tuesday.

After losing their opening game on Sunday, the women were determined to get back on even keel in their second encounter.

Linda Williams, playing off a -2 handicap, opened the scoring for the women in the first chukka, while the young and promising Josh Archer, now into his second season of competitive polo, opened the scoring for the men’s team with a goal to end the chukka with the scores locked at 1-1.

The second chukka saw a lucklustre performance by both teams with Adam Deane the only competitor to find the back of the net with the only goal scored in the seventh minute of the chukka to put the men back on top.

That’s when it got exciting.

The third chukka provided the small crowd on hand with the most excitement as the women then scored three unanswered goals to put the score at 4-2 in their favour.

Two of the goals were scored by Hazel Jackson and the other by Sarah Wiseman.

Stout defending in the final chukka saw both teams failing to trouble the scorers, allowing the women to ride off into the sunset with a well-deserved 4-2 victory to level the series and full of confidence going into game three today at the Apes Hill grounds in St James.
