‘Safe’ Carnival

SPECTATORS AND MASQUERADERS have described this year’s Carnival festivities as one of the safest and most enjoyable, thanks in part to the heavy police presence.

Yesterday’s parade of the bands in downtown Port of Spain went on without a hitch under the watchful eyes of dozens of police officers on the ground and in helicopters.

From all appearances, Machel Montano’s runaway hit Like Ah Boss, which won him the Power Soca Monarch competition on Friday night, will also earn him his seventh Road March.

Here, Barbados’ soca queen Alison Hinds, who made guest appearances during the Carnival season, playing mas’ in Port of Spain yesterday.
