Judges upset

A BRIDGETOWN MAGISTRATE has come under fire and harsh criticism for his comments on judges who have been granting bail to gun accused.

And at least one High Court judge is calling on Magistrate Douglas Frederick to issue a public apology for his remarks.

“Such divisive outbursts . . . are counterproductive and ultimately do not conduce to the maintenance of cordial relations between the various sections of the judiciary,” Justice Maureen Crane-Scott said yesterday.

She was commenting on Frederick’s condemnation, a week ago, of High Court judges, whom he accused of undermining the confidence of the Magistrates’ Courts by awarding bail to gun accused who were previously denied their freedom when they appeared before him.
