RENEWABLE ENERGY installers, who late last year complained of running out of capacity, which posed a threat to their existence, breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) increased the limit of the Renewable Energy Rider (RER) from nine megawatts (MW) to 20.
FTC’s chief executive officer, Peggy Griffith, in a statement, said the Barbados Light & Power Co (BL&P) submitted the Intermittent Renewable Energy Penetration Study on February 13, in support of its request to increase the RER limit by nine MW.
She said that given the information before the Commission, including the level of requests for participation in the RER programme, it accepted that 20 MW of distributed PV could be accommodated on the grid without creating challenges.
