Barbadian?Andrew Jemmott on his pro debut and dazzling Darrem Charles of Trinidad and Tobago cracked the top ten of the Masters Olympia muscle contest in Miami over the weekend.
Charles captured seventh place while Jemmott, who hails from Proute, St Thomas, was tenth in the season ending contest watched by an audience that included reigning Mr Olympia Phil “The Gift”?Heath and former Mr Olympia winners Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler.
It was a solid performance from the 40-year-old Jemmott, who guest posed in Barbados in October at the Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic.
Dexter “The Blade”?Jackson, the class of a field of 34, was the unquestioned winner. He became the first man to win both the Masters Olympia and the Mr Olympia.
Reports indicated that Jackson showcased his best package on stage since he turned Mr Olympia in 2008. He brought the consistent look that earned him the nickname “The Blade”.
Shredded and sliced, Jackson walked away with the first prize of $100 000 and a huge smile on his face after his impressive fourth at the Mr Olympia in September.
Toney Freeman did not bring his best package to date, but for a man who competes a multitude of times throughout the world, he proved that age is just a number. He clinched second spot.
Coming out of retirement and placing third, Dennis James proved that living the bodybuilding lifestyle allowed him to dust off the shorts and get back on stage in only a few short months.
A Flex athlete and a role model, James proved that it’s mind over matter combined with discipline and grit.
Placing fourth was Ed Nunn. Tall and muscular, Nunn has been grappling with leg development this past year. The man who boasts a tiny waist and broad shoulders could have placed second or third and no one would have complained.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Germany’s Ronny Rockel, who brought to Miami the package he’s been known for in the past. It may have been his best performance in the last two seasons.
The Masters Olympia was promoted by Jarka Lorie Schneider, who managed to coax the great Coleman and fellow bodybuilding legends Francis Benfatto and Samir Bannout to guest pose on stage.
All the men who competed were over 40 years old, with some in their 60s and one in his 70s.
