DEAR CHRISTINE: Help give toddler a fair chance

Date:

Share post:

Dear Christine,

I have two children. One has a severe medical condition which makes it impossible for him to eat solid food. As a result, he can only digest liquids, and this in itself is very expensive. He is two years old and wants to eat but just cannot, as his esophagus is too narrow to allow solids to pass.

He also has regular surgical procedures to help correct his condition which is known as trachea esophageal fistula. Based on his condition, he can only consume Pediasure since that contains the balanced nutrition he needs.

I have tried to blend or strain meals for him but the texture of the food is a big factor in what he can consume. As a result, he is very limited in what he can digest.

I am desperately in need of assistance to help him because I have lost my job and can no longer provide for him the way I normally would.

Christine, he has been through a lot and by the grace of God he is fighting to remain in this world. I just need help to give him a fair chance because it just seems like everything is against him.

Please, Christine, can you help me find a job so I can take care of my babies? That is all I am asking for.

– Broken Hearted Mum

Dear Broken Hearted Mum,

I am very touched by your letter, especially since you are not asking for handouts, but for a job so you can help your children. I will tell you that my heart goes out to you but that would not be enough.

I am therefore making a public appeal on your behalf, for kind-hearted people to come to your assistance. I am hoping that the local agents and distributors of Pediasure, or even some retailers, would give you a decent supply while you await a job offer. I am also hoping that someone will indeed offer you the opportunity to be gainfully employed so your children can get the help and care they need.

I will ask my assistant to follow up on your letter and to get the ages of your children, as well as the sex of your second child, so that by the time this article appears, interested persons who call will be furnished with that information.

I know my appeal will not fall on deaf ears, so please hang in there.

Anyone interested in giving assistance can call 430-5470 and leave their name and contact number/s.

– Christine
