A LEADING COLLECTOR of liquid and solid waste has raised questions about the recent introduction of a fee for depositing refuse at the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC) at Vaucluse, St Thomas.

Anderson Cherry, of Jose Y Jose Liquid and Solid Waste, said his company received notification of the new tipping fee from the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) last month.

The letter read: “I am directed to inform that with immediate effect from 1 April 2015, the Authority will be introducing a tipping fee of $25 plus VAT per tonne or part thereof for all refuse deposited at Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre Inc. at Vaucluse, St Thomas. This is in keeping with the Sanitation Service Authority (fees) (Amendment) Regulation 1996.

“You will be required to purchase tickets from the Authority and these tickets must be presented to SBRC when you deliver the refuse.”
