ST CATHERINE’S UNIVERSITY women’s soccer team kicked off their Barbados tour with a tough 2-1 victory over a Combined Clubs side featuring several senior and junior national players.
Playing at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex at Paradise Park, the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 unit seemed quite comfortable against the local girls, who seemed a bit lethargic in their play, as most of them would have been inactive for a number of months.
The match provided spectators with the opportunity to witness the return of Soraya Toppin-Herbert, playing on home soil for the first time in three years after plying her trade at NCAA Division 1 college Purdue University, Indiana.
After both teams traded attacks and came close, it was the visitors who drew first blood.
