BARBADOS finished their CARIFTA Games’ assignment in St Kitts-Nevis with 16 medals but also had two major honours to go along with the silverware.
Mary Fraser won the prestigious Austin Sealy Award as the most outstanding athlete, performing the unprecedented feat among Barbadian females of winning the 1500, 3000 and 800 metres.
Mario Burke also joined elite company in doing the sprint double. He has joined Eric Berry in 1978 and Obadele Thompson in 1994.
At the end of the morning session, Barbados had 12 medals comprising five gold, four silver and three bronze.
This was four fewer than their overall tally of 16 gained last year in Martinique. So they had the final session to make up the gap or surpass it.
