Akela breaks national heptathlon record

MULTI-TALENTED Akela Jones wasted little time in breaking the Barbados senior women’s national record in the heptathlon.

In her very first heptathlon, Jones finished second at the University of Arizona’s Jim Click Combined Events  with 6 049 points on Friday. The winner was Jamaica’s Salcia Slack with 6 141 points.

Slack, a two-time CARIFTA heptathlon gold medallist is now representing New Mexico Highland. Alyssa Thompson  of the host college was third with 5 320
