EXPERIENCED TELECOMMUNICATIONS EXECUTIVE Niall Sheehy has been appointed managing director for the Barbados operations following the merger of Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) and Columbus Communications, operators of the Flow and Columbus Solutions brands.

In making the announcement, John Reid, president consumer group, indicated that even though Niall will assume the leadership of the combined company, both Sheehy and Oliver Chatten, the former chief executive officer of LIME Barbados, would work together to ensure a smooth transition over the next  few weeks.

Reid thanked Chatten for his significant contribution to the growth of the CWC operations in Barbados and noted that his expertise during the transition period will be invaluable.  “Our overriding focus is, and must always be, our customers. In moving forward we will focus on “accelerating the speed of decision-making with clear lines of accountability, and most importantly, developing a winning attitude, focused on delivering an unsurpassed customer experience and staying ahead of the competition,”  said Reid.

Up to the date of his appointment, Sheehy served as the managing director of Columbus Barbados. He has been involved in the telecoms industry for the past 15 years and brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He began his telecoms career in 2000 at British Telecom Global Services in Europe where he managed diverse virtual teams with responsibility for the design, implementation and commercial delivery of complete ICT solutions.

In June 2005, he joined Digicel in Jamaica with primary responsibility to establish and spearhead the Business Solutions team, then subsequently moving on to Columbus Communications in October 2010. In June 2013, Sheehy moved to Barbados as managing director of Columbus Communications.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to lead the combined Barbados operations, a challenge I’m both honoured and excited to undertake. We will continue to focus on delivering an unsurpassed customer experience and providing cutting edge services that meet and exceed market demands,” Sheehy stated.

Born in Ireland, Sheehy holds a B.A. and Postgraduate Diploma from the University College Cork and has participated in a host of industry specific training programmes.

“We have exciting opportunities ahead of us to offer a winning consumer proposition with advanced mobile, video and broadband products and services, as well as to deepen our customer relationships through new bundled packages and an improved customer experience,” Reid concluded. (PR)
