Mexican, American top triathletes

THE HEAT was on at the Spring Garden Highway during the Bridgetown Camtri Sprint Triathlon American Cup yesterday when more than 50 world-class athletes vied for this year’s titles.

In the men’s elite section, Cesar Saracho of Mexico cruised across the finish line in just under an hour, capturing the gold medal and the top prize of US$750.

He was able to overtake both his teammate Javier Gomez and Canadian John Rasmussen, who led the race up until the final lap.

“This is my second time here. Today the guys in the bike got away and I needed to run fast and catch them. I did it and I am very happy for that. I am not sure what I am doing next. I’m going to think about the national races and see what next I do, but I will continue training,” he said.
