ALMOND BEACH RESORT has been officially granted another lifeline.

The DAILY NATION confirmed that not only had the Heywoods, St Peter hotel, now operated by Bernie Weatherhead’s Sun Group Hotels, been granted a contract extension until June 2016, but another $1 million was to be pumped into its refurbishment, including the opening of about 50 additional rooms.

In an official announcement on the decision, which sources said was communicated to guests and the overseas travel trade in February, Almond management said: “We wish to announce that Almond Beach Resort has been granted an extension on its operations and will continue to accept reservations through to June, 2016. The existing summer rates have been extended through to December 18, 2015, and further winter and summer 2016 rates are being issued.

“Given the extended operation period, we will undertake an additional $1 million enhancement of the property to continue improving the guests’ experience. This will include the opening of additional rooms, retiling of public bathrooms, new furniture in certain public areas, [food and beverage] upgrades and enhancements, a refitted gym, enhanced spa, and additions to the kids/teens club…
