COVID-19 rapid testing will be available at Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory from Tuesday for people travelling to the United Kingdom.

Government has moved to facilitate rapid testing since the UK last week announced measures to protect against the new coronavirus variants.

“Effective January 21, 2021 the UK will be requiring travellers to present a negative COVID-19 test for entry into the country. Outbound UK travellers requiring a Rapid Antigen test in order to facilitate travel should present themselves to the Best-dos Santos Laboratory starting tomorrow, Tuesday January 19, 2021 . . .,” a statement from Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. said on Monday.

Testing will be available daily between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The testing process will take approximately one-and-a-half hours from registration through test certification. Travellers are advised to plan accordingly.

The protocols announced by the UK last week are:

“Emergency measures introduced at the border to be in place for at least one month in order to protect the UK against new variants.

“All international arrivals to the UK from any country (including British and Irish Nationals) must now take a pre-departure test and self-isolate for ten-days.

“Passengers must continue to fill in a Passenger Locator Form and have a negative test before travelling to the UK or could face a £500 fine for each.” (PR/KG)
