NO RETREAT, no surrender – for drug lords.

That was the uncompromising stance adopted yesterday by former Minister of Health Donville Inniss in an impassioned presentation during debate in the House of Assembly on a move to include facilities for drug addicts or those dependent on other substances under ministerial regulation.

The amendment to the Health Services Act would enable the minister to make regulations with respect to facilities, such as Verdun House, St John, for the treatment of people with an addiction to, or dependency on, drugs or other substances.

Current regulations cover the licensing, management, operation, control and inspection of private hospitals, nursing homes, senior citizens homes and maternity hospitals. (AB)
