BARBADOS IS in the running for 200 new jobs and millions of dollars in additional investment as Cable & Wireless (C&W) returns its call centre from El Salvador to the Caribbean.
More than six years after its closure of a similar facility cost more than 100 Barbadians their jobs and sparked a showdown with the Barbados Workers’ Union, C&W has had a change of heart.
Yesterday, as he reported that the company earned $112 million in pre-tax profits here last year, C&W Communications (CWC) chief executive officer Phil Bentley announced that within the next four months, either Barbados or Jamaica would be home to the new call centre.
