West Indies Women level T20 series

BOLSTERED BY half centuries from their two best batters, West Indies Women beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets Monday to level the T20 cricket series 1-1 in Colombo.

Stafanie Taylor was unbeaten on 59 off 49 balls with eight fours and Deandra Dottin scored 51 off 45 balls (seven fours) as West Indies reached 125 for two in 18.5 overs. The pair scored 101 in 14.4 overs to overhaul Sri Lanka’s 124 for five off 20 overs.

It was Dottin’s eighth half century in T20s.

Useful contributions from Dilani Manodara (30), Chamari Attapatu (27) and 26 each from Shashikala Siriwardene and Nipuni Hansika helped Sri Lanka reach their target, but none of the batters carried on.

Sri Lanka won the first match by five runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Taylor scored 40 and captain Merissa Aguilleira 28 not out as West Indies reached 109 for six.

Sri Lanka lost four wickets in 12 balls and were tottering on 60 for five. They needed 22 runs off 28 balls with four wickets remaining when rain interrupted play. At that point they were five runs ahead and won the match.
