PSV monitors ‘a good move’

A SENIOR LAWMAN says he is looking forward to the day when telematics devices are installed in all public service vehicles (PSV) to monitor driving practices.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Eucklyn Thompson told the DAILY NATION something needed to be done legislatively to track the driving habits of PSV operators.

Speaking after the recent launch of DrivePal – a Sagicor General/EasyTrak initiative to remotely tract the way a vehicle is driven – in Olympus VIP, Sheraton Mall, Thompson said: “That would be good for that segment of our society to be able to come on board. They should be interested in cleaning up their act.

“There has been a hue and a cry about the behaviour of PSV drivers and if initiatives like this can be put into place, it would go a long way to improving their profile and may lead to larger numbers of people utilising their services. (CA)
