CELLPHONE CONVERSATIONS in Barbados are to be taxed by Government as part of a new set of impositions to finance education and environmental protection.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler revealed yesterday that users would now pay the Government three cents for every minute they talked on a Lime or Digicel phone, a measure estimated to rake in $32.7 million each year.
“As you might recall . . . in his 2009 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, my predecessor in this office, the late [David Thompson], announced the imposition of a special excise on cellphone usage.
