BIDC, NUPW dig in

THE dispute between the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) is headed for a major showdown.

One day before the union is scheduled to meet with BIDC workers and their colleagues from statutory corporations, the BIDC published a statement standing by its position to “retire” ten employees and sever two others.

In fact, the BIDC has made it clear it did nothing wrong, saying it paid the workers more than they were due, with additional benefits still to come to those over 60 who had been retired, and that it had the full backing of its board and minister.
