A SAD DAY for Barbados’ football.

President of the Barbados Football Association (BFA), Randy Harris, has admitted a mistake was made which led to the national senior team’s expulsion from the FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifiers for playing an ineligible player in teenager Hadan Holligan.

The sport’s governing body, FIFA, flexed its muscle yesterday, ordering Barbados to forfeit their 1-0 victory against Aruba in the second leg of a CONCACAF second-round match on June 14 at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

In another twist, BFA’s general secretary, Canadian-born Joyce Stewart resigned from her post, fuelling speculation that her decision was linked to FIFA’s ruling even though no reason for given in a release from the BFA.  (EZS)
