NASTY AND WICKED.

That’s how some Customs officers and the head of one trade union have described a 2011 international report that has painted a dim picture of Customs operations on the island, particularly in areas of transparency, Customs control and efficiency.

“The release of information at this time to the NATION re the 2011 survey on Customs, is a nasty and wicked piece of work. The comments followed a report in the last SUNDAY SUN that highlighted a number of failings by the Customs and Excise Department. (TS)
